Monday, August 15th

We have had a busy day. We woke up to doctors rounds at 6am. Doctors have felt that Mama's system just needed to wake up, but now getting concerned as to why the nausea has continued and she has so little tolerance to foods and drink. They ordered an upper GI scan to make sure that there is no blockage or wound leaks. Also, a PICC line was ordered to help with all the blood draws and IV nutrition.
Mama was really sick this morning. After we spent some time in prayer and thanking God for his blessings amidst the storm and thanking Him for all of His promises, we got to see many more blessings and answers to prayer.
Just before getting her PICC line in, Mama threw up and then began feeling better. It's crazy how that all works.... Her stomach has been good the rest of the day. :)
We had one of their best PICC nurses in to do Mama's line. In conversation, we found that she worked closely with Dr. Hickman before he retired. Dr. Hickman is the inventor of the Hickman catheter and has an amazing reputation. Great person to learn from. Thankfully, she was able to put it in with little discomfort and it works!
Mama then had her scan. She had to drink two bottles of contrast and praise the Lord...she was able to hold it down! The scans showed no blockage or leaks. Thank you Jesus! It did show that the muscles are just working very slow. They will hopefully get stronger and stronger each day. This is a big relief. They will be starting the IV nutrition tonight and will most likely send her home on with it. The doctor suggested that she lay on her right side about a half hour after she eats to help the stomach empty out into her intestines.
This afternoon and evening, Mama's nausea has been better. Tonight she had a few bites of soup for dinner and so far....so good.
We have been reading the blog comments and she has opened up all her mail. Thank you so much for keeping the encouraging words coming. This has been so wonderful. We especially appreciate all your prayers. We are seeing prayers answered, God's protection and feeling so loved. Thank you.
With love,
Carmen & family

Hello Duckie, Who misses you like crazy? Yes me! and Linda! and Jo! We need some "cure all" painting sessions. Don't know about you, but I have had enough of this sickie thing. I just want to be praying over your kitchen table to thank God for one of your wonderful lunches and the friendship we are blessed to have found. Just two short years ago, whoda thunked the fabulous four would have such a bond. Glad to hear about the PIC line was put in. I believe you will start getting better now. Much less pin cushion action. Linda and I want to take turns putting you on that velvet pillow to protect you BUT WE KNOW YOU WILL ONLY GET PAINT ON IT...... So much love to you Duckie. Love, prayers & looking forward for us. Jeanzie

Dear Dahlin Family:
I know that there's a heaven because Jesus said He went to
prepare a place for us. I know
there's a hell because you have
been on the edge of it. The news
was much better tonight and I am
so very thankful. It sounds like
a number of things that there was
concern about like blockage and
leaking check out ok. That is
wonderful. It should be no surprise that after such a major
operation there would be difficulties. The body has great
potential to heal its-self. Then
of course our God is listening to
the many prayers in your behalf &
He will answer them. We love you
and hurt for you. Thank the Lord
for each sign of encouragement.
Love Dino
